Every football coach has heard the cry… “CAN WE PLAY A MATCH NOW????” From the first whistle, kids are eager to get into the action!
Summer’s 4 Football, is the perfect solution for those budding footballers itching to play in matches, have fun, and learn as they do it.

Exclusively for children in Years 4 & 5, and now also for year 6s, “Summer’s 4 Football” is a weekly ladder tournament featuring fast-paced, 4v4 matches. Played across the four quarters of Varndean High School’s beautiful 4G pitch. Each match lasts just 4 minutes — the perfect time for children to showcase their skills, build their confidence, and enjoy playing the game.
The format is simple and exciting. Winners move up a pitch, losers move down, and draws are decided by a “skill-shot penalty.” Whoever wins the last game on the top pitch when the evening draws to a close, is the winning team – so there is always something to play for.
All goals, Assists and Clean Sheets get recorded using our card collection system and children are encouraged to beat their own records. At the end of the Summer, the children leading the stats in each of the age groups win trophies at an end of season awards ceremony.
This isn’t just about playing; it’s about learning and developing through play. All games will be refereed by our coaches, who will also provide gentle and encouraging tactical guidance, helping children improve their game in a fun, relaxed, but also competitive setting. With medals and prizes for the winning team each week, the competition will be as fierce as it is friendly.
Teams will be organised on arrival and can be accommodating of friendships, with the aim of creating a social and supportive environment for everyone. The event takes place throughout the Summer on Tuesday nights from 5-6.30pm (u9s & 10s) or 6.30pm-8pm (u11s) outdoors, giving kids the chance to experience the joy of football in a community-driven, engaging atmosphere.
5Ways Soccer Summer’s 4 Football isn’t just about winning – it’s about learning to win and lose with grace, improving technical skills, having fun and creating memories with friends.
Who? : Children who love to play football matches & are currently in Year 4 & 5 or 6
What?: A weekly 4v4 Ladder Tournament overseen by 5Ways Soccer coaches taking place every Thursday through the Summer Term.
Where?: Varndean High School 4G Football Pitch, Ditchling Rd, Brighton, BN1 6PW
When?: Tuesday Nights during Summer Term Period*, 5pm-6.30pm (u9s & 10s) or 6.30-8pm (u11s), April 14th – July 21st with no session on May 28th during Half Term break).
Why?: Supervised, active, pressure-free, outdoor game time on a beautiful playing surface. Lots of touches on the ball, freedom to play, meet friends and win prizes.
